The Union welcomed the decision of the authorities regarding the Diciotti ship: but it has a hook

"I welcome the solution and the migrants from the Diciotti ship can get out and get the care they need" Avramopulos said on Saturday night. He explained that this has happened thanks to solidarity across borders and communities. At the same time, the Commissioner pointed out that "we can not always wait for this kind of solidarity". He stressed that there should be structural measures.

However, representatives from 10 EU Member States did not meet on Friday in Brussels for a dispute settlement agreement with Italy on the distribution of refugees from an Italian coastguard. Italy, through Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maia, threatened the European Union with suspending payments to Brussels if it failed to secure the distribution of these refugees. The Union reacted violently on Friday, with non-constructive threats being useful to find a solution.

On Saturday, the Italian authorities granted permission to another 16 migrants to leave the Diciotti anchor in Catania for health reasons. Representatives of the Red Cross stated that the Ministry of Health ordered inspections of sanitation on this ship with 150 migrants. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that 11 women and five men had left the ship. Two passengers are also suspected of tuberculosis.
