This year Västerbotten received 28 bears. That is two more than last year, it has risen because more bears were discovered during the inventory than expected.
By 10:30 five bears had been shot in the province. A man in the municipality of Skellefteå, a female in Dorotea, one in Vilhelmina and one in the Dorotea.
"It is intensive the first morning when most of the hunters are in the forest," says predator Linda Backlund of the County Administrative Board.
The hunt lasts until October 15, unless the quota has been filled in earlier.
"It usually takes half a day per bear, so we expect the hunt to be over within two to three weeks," says Linda Backlund.
