Cassandra Cline, 45, from South Carolina, USA, went out with her dog on Monday morning, writes The Island Packet.
It was about 8:30 in the morning when she left her home in one of the Hilton Head Islands ports communities in the city. At a lagoon a nearly 2.5 meters high alligator suddenly appeared without warning – and the dog attacked.
"A kind of a drag fight"
When Cassandra Cline desperately tried to save the dog, she was brought down in the lagoon.
The Alligator grabbed the dog couple. There was some sort of quarrel with her to get the dog back through the clutch, but instead the alligator pulled her and the dog into the water, Sam Chappelear, Regional Wildlife Coordinator, for The Island Packet.
He says that the woman and the dog had walked very close to the beach and that the alligator could be caught and killed.

Blake Smith, 34, lives in the same area and was on his way home from his house on Monday morning when he saw police and fire trucks.
"I waited about 30 minutes, then I started to hear rumors about what happened next, it's weird because it's the first time we hear of an aggressive alligator around a man during the five years we lived here, he says to The Island Packet.
"A sad accident"
The neighbor tells us that the area is family-friendly and that many cyclists and dog owners cross the water. Every time an alligator appeared around backyards and pools, he says, the authorities have quickly arrived and moved.
– They're doing well. This is only a sad accident. I have a young son, so it's worried to see that this can happen, Blake Smith told The Island Packet.
The area spans the alligators, writes the newspaper, and yet it is unclear whether the alligator was involved in an incident.
