Before the elections in just over two weeks, a premiere can be held in the Mölnlycke library in Härryda. After the Europride last week, Prideflaggor stayed close to the building.
During the Friday someone who had heard before heard from SD in Härryda and told them that the flags were there.
The Swedish Democrats then turned to the municipality and demanded that the flags be brought down – which also happened in the afternoon
"It was clear to us that the Pride flag has leftist symbolism and that's why we thought it inappropriate for the ballroom," says Calle Johansson, group leader for SD in Härryda.
SD: "Correct assessment"
The criticism was brought to the municipality, which in turn contacted the election president who decided that the flags would be canceled.
"It was a correct assessment that it had to be removed, what happened," says Calle Johansson and continues:
– They have made the assumption that it is politically charged that it should not be in the voting room, where we had the same judgment as they feel comfortable.
The decision has caused feelings in the library.
"My colleagues were allowed to resign from the SD delegates and the election commissioner who noticed what should be removed, which is extremely humiliating, says a member of the library of SVT News West, who wrote about the flags for the first time.
Emma Gunterberg Sachs, Chief Executive Officer at West Pride, does not agree that the event is politically abandoned.
"Pride has nothing or nothing to do without being completely unpolitical. We protect the equal value of all people and it is not that we are in no way left.West Pride is completely unpolitical, in our management there are different members with different political interests, it is not at all left to it, but it is mixed, she says.
The decision was taken on the advice of the provincial government
The person who took the decision to remove the flags was Weine Samuelsson (M), who is the chairman of the election committee in the municipality, and this was the recommendation of the provincial government.
– Because there were symbols in the library that were not allowed to exist and therefore they advised to remove them. These flags, he says to SVT.
Asked if they could not follow the recommendations, Samuelsson answered:
"It is clear that you are going to the recommendation of the provincial government." You do not mind that those who hold the elections.
