A track fault has been discovered on the West Coast Line between Helsingborg and Lund, and at present the line cannot be served at all by Skånetrafiken trains.

Replacement buses were used during the day.

According to the Swedish transport administration, work to solve the problem will continue overnight for the coming weeks.

– It is incredibly sad that we have to stop rail traffic on the west coast at such a short notice, but of course we support the decision of the Swedish transport administration to reduce the speed on the route, says Ulf Welin, acting traffic director at Skånetrafiken in a press release.

Information is available on the website and in the app.

“The Swedish transport administration has discovered a number of track errors on the West Coast Line, which means that the speed must be reduced to 70 km / h for safety reasons. In total, this is a distance of just over seven kilometers where the errors must be corrected, ”the Swedish Transport Administration writes on its website.

The error could affect traffic in the coming weeks.

Work to solve the problem will take place at night for at least several weeks and in the meantime the Swedish Transport Administration has decided to reduce the permissible speed for trains during the day to 70 km / h. Skånetrafiken has chosen to stop traffic completely on Friday.

Exactly how long it takes to solve the problem is not entirely clear and depends, among other things, on the weather. If it gets cold below five degrees, don’t weld on the grooves.

– We talk at least on the weekends, probably a long time later, says Ola Malmberg, senior rail project manager at the Swedish transport administration.

“In addition to commuting in Skåne, rail traffic on the west coastline between Malmö and Gothenburg is affected. Passengers are encouraged to contact their train company for more traffic information, ”writes the Swedish Transport Administration.

According to the press service, SJ runs the route between Malmö and Gothenburg as usual, but there are delays of around 30 minutes on our high-speed trains between Malmö and Gothenburg.
