The canton police succeeded on July 26 to arrest a dangerous perpetrator. The man had robbed two pensioners last month with a ruthless scam and forced them to transfer money. One of these raids took place in Illnau-Effretikon.
As reported by the cantonal police, a 72-year-old woman was visited by an unknown man on July 20, shortly before 3:00 PM. He called in Effretikon and was given access to the apartment under the pretext.
There the man grabbed a pistol and threatened the woman en masse. He tied her down and demanded the issuance of the PINs from her bank and credit cards. He therefore took a few thousand francs from her account.
Second company in Zurich
Two days earlier, on 18 July 2018, a robbery was committed in Zurich with a very similar approach.
He threatened the woman and her partner with death.
At about 5.30 pm an unknown man called a 66-year-old woman and stepped into the apartment again under a pretext and immediately took out a gun.
He also threatened the pensioner of Zurich and her presence in the 80-year-old life partner of the apartment with death. The perpetrator demanded money, bank and credit cards and the associated PINs. He then fled cash, bank and credit cards with a few hundred francs.
Are there more cases?
The investigation of the Zurich cantonal police eventually led to the suspicion of a 61-year-old Swiss. The robber was arrested on 26 July 2018 in collaboration with the cantonal police Thurgau in Frauenfeld.
The detainee is currently in custody. In previous hearings, he has known the robbery in Effretikon and in Zurich. The police will now, in cooperation with the prosecutor, clarify whether the robber is still eligible for other comparable similar crimes.
