Outside the meeting room in the Bundeshaus SVP member of the national council Adrian Amstutz (BE, 64) gives a television interview about the shocking blackmail he received. On Sunday, the Bern was threatened with other Swiss by cyber criminals (Blick.ch reported): if he does not pay around 1100 francs today, a & # 39; program & # 39; of attacks began, the blackmailer told him. Like bomb threats in his name or even manipulated video's of him while he was having sex with children.
SVP country attorney Werner Salzmann (BE, 55) – also a victim of blackmail – attended the meeting of the Security Policy Committee (SiK). Subject: the cyber defense measures of the federal government.
"We are far too slow"
Unanimously, the SiK now decides to write a letter to the Federal Council. "We ask the government to continue with the defense against electronic threats and the gentleman or Miss Cyber, whom he wants to do, also rests with the power," says Salzmann. With "authority", as it is later officially mentioned in the press release. That the subject was on the agenda yesterday, on the day that LOOK reveals the blackmail, was a coincidence, so Salzmann. But a good coincidence.
The Federal Council, which decided in early July to step up its fight against cyber risks, is of the opinion that the Commission is right. "We are far too slow," says Salzmann. Of course there is always a question of building cyber defense, but tangible things are hardly noticeable. "Switzerland can not, however, afford to carry out the necessary work."
Management reports – but understandable please!
That is why the Commission is now demanding several immediate measures. The existing information and analysis agency for information security (Melani) should immediately receive more money and staff. "In addition, the protection of critical infrastructure must be immediately improved and the economy must be alerted to possible dangers," says Salzmann. In a way that you understand: "The federal reports about the threats are diffuse, and we want more clarity."
The SiK agrees with the Federal Council that the federal cyber command lies with the Finance Department. As a result, Melani's existing knowledge can be used.
