With the rejection of a renewed candidature a long political career ended, the FDP Aargau communicated on Wednesday. The 66-year-old made the leap to the Council of States in 2015. Previously, he was a member of the National Council for twelve years. From 2012 to 2016, he was party leader of the FDP, the liberal Switzerland.

In the canton of Aargau, both seats of the public council are vacant. Even SP council member Pascale Bruderer is not prepared for a resit.
