Bordeaux has offered Thierry Henry the job as head coach for a long-term contract, Sky Sports News understands.

The 41-year-old has asked for time to consider their offer and said that he will make a decision this weekend.

Henry, who left his role as a student of Sky Sports in the summer to focus on his coaching career, was previously employed at Aston Villa earlier this summer.

The Frenchman works since 2016 as an assistant to the Belgian boss Roberto Martinez and was part of the backroom staff who led the team to third place during the World Cup in Russia.

The League 1 party recently suspended Gus Poyet after criticizing a transfer made without his knowledge.

Bordeaux sold striker Gaetan Laborde to rivals Montpellier and Poyet reacted furiously after their Europa League won FC Mariupol and the transfer was "a shame".

Poyet was suspended for a week and Eric Bedouet took over for Sunday's league game with Toulouse, which saw Bordeaux drop to a 2-1 loss.

Henry played with Monaco between 1994-1999 and Ligue 1 before moving to Juventus.

The former French frontman made 254 appearances for Arsenal between 1999 and 2007 and won 123 caps for his country.
