Despite being a new entry in the almost annual Ubisoft series, Assassin's Creed Odyssey has enough new systems and things to confuse new and experienced players. The big open world is so open that I accidentally went astray in a few situations before the game explained how to treat it. 1 Select the Exploration mode instead of the Guided mode
In Origins the result of ugly, overlapping icons on the map was considerably reduced, and at Odyssey it has completely disappeared. To be honest, unraveling these instructions is not difficult. Sometimes there is only one unknown location, marked with a question mark, on the entire east coast. This mystery is not exactly the Murder on the Orient Express, is what I say. Yet, when icons appear on a spinning compass in a game, I tend to get tunnel vision and spend more time seeing the compass than the beautiful handcrafted world around me. All I needed was a small excuse to keep my brain connected to the physical world to really get lost.
That said, the world of ancient Greece is big – really big. Each transport mode has a kind of auto-run function that really comes in handy. On horseback or on foot, if you press Z, your character is activated so that you can take your hands off the keyboard while Space Bar does the same for boats. Especially horses are good at this: hold Z for a moment and then press E, after which your horse automatically follows roads to navigate directly to a map marker.
Although I would not recommend leaving the game unattended while on foot, riding the horse or sailing to an island a few thousand meters away, you have just enough time to grab a cup of coffee .
2 Upgrade your favorite weapons and armor
Weapons and armor play a major role in character growth in Odyssey. There are a lot of different types of weapons, such as swords, axes, rods, spears and daggers, and they all deal a bit differently and have different special attacks. Fortunately, I noticed that I could choose pretty much what I thought cool, because all weapons seem equally effective. Heavy maces, for example, are huge and slow, but they kill Athenians as dead as a dagger.
In fact, one of the truly liberating things about equipment in Odyssey is that it is almost absurdly customizable and upgradeable. I remember very well that I had fitted some drugged jester in the Witcher 3, precisely because it had the best armor that I could afford at the time. Odyssey avoids that shame by offering an unlimited (although expensive in-game) ability to upgrade every piece of acceleration to the current player level. Do you have a favorite sword that you have been using since level 10, but it just can not cut it (har har) now that you are at level 15? Pay a blacksmith and boom, your favorite sword is now a level 15 sword.
One thing to keep in mind is that when collecting sets of Legendary Armor the entire set will automatically upgrade to the level of the last piece you have collected. Unlike Origins, the Odyssey world usually corresponds to the current player level. With a few exceptions, every wolf, bandit and archer that I kill on my level, plus or minus one or two. This makes the difficulty level a bit flat. Sometimes, however, an enemy has an Elite modifier or a poisoned ax or something damn that can make it really hard to kill them. I will cut them and put everything I want, but my individual attacks just do not do much damage. The best thing you can do here: kick them off a cliff.
One of the first skills that I unlocked was the Sparta Kick, a & # 39; legendary shovel & # 39; that throws enemies backwards. Most importantly, the Sparta Kick is incredibly satisfying to use. It is like a Fus Ro Dah battle cry from Skyrim, except with a boot on the face. Once, I was in a battle in a marble quarry when a high-ranking, elite Spartan commander crashed me. Desperately, I ran into the workers' scaffolding and staggered dangerously across the gorge of the open quarry. When the commander climbed up to kill me, I kicked him off. Sword: 300 damage. Stairs: 600 damage. A few hundred meters of death: 20,000 damage.
No matter how good an enemy is, you can always ensure that you have at least one lucky bird. Make it strong and point it to a cliff.
4 Make crimes to get a premium and then raise the mercenaries
The protagonist is one misthios, a mercenary soldier who is widely used in Greece. Every time someone commits a crime (and let's be honest, that "someone" is usually you), a cash bounty can be placed on your head and a mercenary sent to collect it. Being chased by a hit man is exciting, and some of them have a real talent to recharge in the middle of your business while you are secretly trying to be.
There is a hierarchy that ranks all mercenary soldiers of the world, and leveling that order comes with all kinds of nice bonuses. This is the art: killing mercenary soldiers above you is the only way to climb the ladder, but the identity of mercenary soldiers is secret. To eliminate the mercenary above you, you must first discover who she is.
It would be too easy if you were just committing a crime and then killing the bounty hunter who is coming in front of you, so that does not work like that, -Kars who go after you for a premium usually fall under you. That said, you find clues to arbitrarily identify mercenaries through the booty system, and I had the most consistent success in finding clues when I killed lower-ranking mercenaries who came to collect my head.
So: do some crimes, kill the bounty hunters and think about who is on top of you on top of you. Then remove them. After all, you are a contract killer, and this is your credo or whatever.
5 Stay neutral in the war to get the best loot
Odyssey takes place during the Peloponnesian War, when Athens and Sparta were super, they were deeper and very rude. The war engulfs the whole of Greece, and you can participate in that battle in every region you visit.
To start a fight, you must disrupt the balance of power by defeating the national leader of the region. This is very similar to killing a warlord in Shadow or Mordor: the leader is heavily guarded and very rich, and a fight between the two is impossible. Instead, you must soften him by murdering his lieutenants, stealing his money, and burning his army's belongings. When you cause enough chaos, the invading faction, whether it is Sparta or Athens, will start a fight.

The only difference is that the attackers will have a much heavier battle and that much better loot will be awarded for success. Everything burns. There is a really aggressive fire system in Odyssey, and adding fire to your attacks is a sensible move. It not only adds fire damage that accumulates over time, but it is also a good control of the crowd. Some enemies break and run when they are hit with fire, so if you are in the middle of a big fight, lighting everyone in the fire can dilute the crowd a little.
Saving someone with a flaming sword while it is cool will not automatically set them on fire. There are a few firefights needed to really let someone burn. If you want to get the most out of your fiery attacks, look for engravings or bonuses that increase "fire buildup". This also applies to battles between ships. A burst of flaming arrows looks great (especially at night), but it will not immediately catch a ship on fire. You will have to send a few shots with flaming arrows or spears before the fire holds. 7 Use Ikaros to explore and spot enemies
