New York | At the Pebble Beach Golf Course in California on Monday, Ferrari unveiled the 50th convertible model it ever made, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider.

This 488 Pista Spider is the continuation of Ferrari's best-selling 488-line.

It has the most powerful Ferrari V8 engine ever – 720 hp (537 kW) on twin-turbochargers – and a unique barking rev-sound thanks to the fact that it now has a retractable rooftop.

The Pista Spider can go to 62mp / h (100km / h) in 2.8 seconds; top speed is 211mp / h.

But there is not much to see that is new from the 488 Pista, except the folding roof.

In addition to the daring blue racing line along the front of the car, the most noticeable changes to this 488 Pista Spider are its new 20-inch alloy wheels with diamond finish with a new 10-spoke star effect and the optional one-piece carbon fiber wheels that offer a weight reduction of 20 percent compared to the forged alloys that come with the car as standard.

The launch control is still there, triggered by a button on the LaFerrari-like carbon outcropping, as well as the dynamic traction control settings and a chassis that is sturdy enough to make you feel like a real speed racer, even on the way to Malibu Kitchen.

Ferrari managers at the debut said the premiere in the United States was a logical choice, given that North American buyers have been buying higher numbers of "high-performance convertibles" since the 1950s compared to consumers in Europe and Middle East.

The Pista Spider can go to 62mp / h (100km / h) in 2.8 seconds; top speed is 211mp / h.
