New Fortnite Update Patch Notes: Map, Lightning, Rift-to-Go, More

Epic Games has launched a new update, v5.30, for Fortnite. The patch has arrived on all platforms – PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Mobile – and introduces new items in the Battle Royale and Save the World modes, along with a series of bug fixes and other improvements. And with the live, we finally have the challenges of Week 7.[[[[Updating: In addition, a new update has been released – v5.30.1 – to withdraw the controversial controller with the intention of making changes listed below.]

On the side of Battle Royale Epic has introduced the previously plagued Rift-to-Go. As the name suggests, this Epic rarity item is a portable gap that you can use to bend in the air and skydive down again. The gaps last 10 seconds after they are activated, so other players also have a short time frame to jump into.

The card has changed, because Risky Reels is now home to a fan movie that you can watch. More importantly, Tomato Town has been replaced by Tomato Temple, where you will find a large pyramid instead of the old restaurant. There are also reported lightning strikes on the map.

Epic has also adapted a handful of other weapons in Battle Royale. Now, Clingers will only explode when their timer runs out, while the Double Barrel Shotgun spread is reduced by 15% while crouching. Epic has also reduced the time of the Pump Shotgun and increased the maximum stack size of Impulse Grenades by one. Moreover, changes have been made to the sensitivity of the controller which have proved problematic; Epic now tries to roll them back. And, in a more pleasant change, you can now thank the bus driver.

In addition, the latest update is the beginning of a new limited-time mode called Score Royale. In this mode, players can first exceed the designated high score and earn points by collecting coins, collecting loot and eliminating other players. The storm circle at the beginning of the race is also larger than normal, while the late-game circles close faster.

On the part of Save the World, Epic has added the Bundlebuss Assault Rifle to the Weekly Store. This powerful new pistol with a large magazine is only available from 23-29 August. A new Horde Weekly Challenge is now also available to take.

You can find the full patch notes for update 5.30 on the Fortnite website. The many challenges this week will come a little later than usual, on Friday, August 24, instead of Thursday, as they normally do. In the meantime, you can find guides for all missions currently available in our full Season 5 challenge guide.
