The Russian singer of Georgian origin Valery Meladze appealed to the Georgian authorities with the request to grant him citizenship. He stated this during a concert on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Vakhtang Kikabidze in Batumi, writes the Georgian News Agency.
At the same time, Meladze noted in RBC's comments that he will not abandon the Russian passport.
"I was born and raised in Georgia at a time when there were no borders between Russia and Georgia, and our peoples have remained historical and mental and are still close together in fraternal ways." The rise of the borders left us a choice. this limit for yourself, "- said the singer.
It should be noted that the musician decided to obtain Georgian citizenship immediately after the State simplified this legislative procedure for all those born on its territory, but the legal status of the citizen has been lost.
Remember that Meladze was born in Batumi in 1965. At the same time he received his higher education at the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute on the territory of Ukraine. After the start of his musical career, Valery left for Moscow.
Until now, his brother, the author of almost all his songs, lives and works Konstantin Meladze in Kiev.
Unlike many other colleagues on the Russian stage, Valery Meladze is currently not at the base of the Peacemaker website and is apparently not on the list of artists denied access to Ukraine. Nevertheless, his concerts in our country are not planned in the coming months.
The media reported earlier that the Ukrainian producer and composer Konstantin Meladze was denied access to the EU countries until 2020 due to problems with the passport.
