During 7 months 2018 (January-July), the Ukrainian customs authorities carried out almost 4,2000 suspension of the customs clearance of goods on suspicion of infringement of intellectual property rights.
This was reported by the press service of the Fiscal State Service of Ukraine.
For the specified period, 7 cases were initiated on the violation of customs rules on the facts of import and export of goods included in the customs register of objects of intellectual property rights, for a total of nearly 1.4 million UAH. Up to and including 1 August of the current year 3,818 objects were registered in the customs register of intellectual property with applications from rightholders, of which 206 from the beginning of 2018.
Objects of copyright and neighboring rights, inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, geographical indications (indications of origin of goods) and plant varieties are protected by intellectual property rights.
For example, Odessa's customs have uncovered several instances of importing a consignment of goods that have infringed intellectual property rights.
In the first case there were 4.4 thousand pairs of sneakers with signs similar to the signs of Adidas, Nike and Puma. One of the Ukrainian companies tried to import counterfeit products from China. During the exercise of customs control and registration of goods, it was established that the goods are moving in violation of intellectual property rights. The customs clearance was suspended and the case was sent to court. According to the ruling of the court, it was confirmed that the goods were moved with violation of intellectual property rights, so it was confiscated. The total number of confiscated goods amounted to more than USD 1 million. Also, according to the court's decision, a fine of 17,000 UAH was imposed.
