The ecumenical patriarch Bartholomew mentioned countless examples of Moscow arbitrariness over the Kiev Metropolis since the 15th century during the Bishops Council of the Constantinople Church in Istanbul.

"This great historical elaboration is another confirmation of the fact that the Council will discuss all conditions, particularly the historical ones, for providing autocephaly to Kiev," the correspondent remarked.

Later, Poroshenko said that the Ecumenical Patriarchate had begun the procedures needed to award autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
