The Russian nuclear industry is expanding

Russian nuclear power

The Russian civil nuclear industry is expanding. Where the Soviet Union built reactors in countries throughout Eastern Europe, Russia now goes a step further – on a global scale. Russia is the largest exporter of nuclear power plants in the world and offers large, favorable loans to governments that want to strengthen their energy production, so that they can buy "pre-packaged" nuclear power plants from Russia.

In this report Bellona analyzes the status of the nuclear energy production industry in Russia and the prospects for its future, both in Russia itself and abroad. We provide an overview of past, current and upcoming projects, and show in turn how Russia becomes the main proponent of a continuation of the nuclear age.
