While the ad is being flown in Nigeria and other West African countries, casting and shooting took place in South Africa over a series of debilitating auditions, where Malaika had to compete with dozens of other observing hopefuls.
"I was in Zimbabwe when I received the phone call, so I had to send a self-taped video to the advertising agency," the model told The Standard Style.
"They liked it and called me for a second casting in Cape Town and then another two in Johannesburg," said the award-winning former Miss Zimbabwe.
At each stage, the number of aspiring actresses would be weakened until they arrived at four o'clock. These finalists then had to take turns playing the scene with the male actors until the film crew found the best combination of chemistry on the screen.
This latest Sprite ad is part of the iconic Obey You campaign with lime flavor.
It starts with Malaika walking gracefully through a street to admire male eyes.
The long-legged model then stops at a street food stall where two suitors try to imitate her through a shop window of chilly eating machismo.
some sips of good old water fail to cool the face of one suitor, the remaining person eventually "impresses" when his seductive sips Sprite do the job.
However, both attempts by Romeo's fall flat when Malaika's character expels the last suitor's offered Sprite, in favor of her own bottle from her handbag.
"The director has really captured the cheeky yet sensitive woman I am," she said.
"I am nice and yet I do not let people walk over me."
While a second glance in the murderous advertising industry in South Africa is such an impressive feat, the Sprite ad is not Malaika's first dance on the small screen
The former Miss Zimbabwe can be seen in advertisements that have been broadcast in various markets throughout the continent and even abroad.
"I have a few more ads, which I hope will appear soon, but have to wait for them to be flown or stored, as some were finally aired in Europe a year or so later," she said.
Malaika's debut on a big stage was as a participant in the 2011 edition of the Miss Zimbabwe beauty contest. A strong show saw her be crowned and writing history as the youngest winner ever of the national election of her country.
In terms of awards and achievements, Malaika has consolidated her position as one of the most successful professional models of her generation and, according to industry experts, one of the best models ever in the country.
Malaika is based in Cape Town, where she continues to model, host various events and functions, as well as establish a career as an actress.
Her budding career behind and in front of the camera has brought her back to Zimbabwe for a season. She is currently working on a local feature film.
"One of my immediate plans is to play a role here in resurrecting the film and media industry, so at the moment I am part of a team that composes a film. overlooked but very important aspect of Zimbabwean society, "she said.
