SEVEN people died while eight others were seriously injured when two buses owned by Jarax Bus Company ran 98 km along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
The accident occurred in the early hours of yesterday near the Pambi River in Chivhu.
National police spokesman Senior assistant commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident in a statement.
"The circumstances are that two buses from Jarax Bus Company traveled the same way, but in opposite directions," she said.
"The person from Harare had 57 passengers on board while the other from Masvingo had eleven.
"When approaching the 98 km link, the driver of the Masvingo bus infringed the carriageway of the oncoming bus and the two side buses," she said.
She said that both buses were swinging off the road, resulting in the death of seven people.
"The Masvingo bus swerved off the road, tilted before it landed on the right side, and Harare's also hit the road to the left, tilted and landed on its wheels, and as a result seven people died and their bodies were taken away. to Chivhu General Hospital Mortuary, "said Snr-Ass Comm Charamba.
She said that the wounded were hospitalized for treatment at Chivhu General Hospital.
She urged drivers to be careful while driving during the night to prevent accidents.
"We urge drivers to be attentive and to avoid going in the opposite direction in the middle of the road, and we urge you to avoid driving during the night when Most accidents happen, "she said.
She said that the names of the deceased will be released once their relatives have been advised.
